an eel spear. A three or four pronged instrument with a handle 8-10 feet in length. The prongs are serrated and close together to hold the eel. The spear is used in water with a sandy or muddy bottom by stabbing where an eel is suspected to lie. I saw a new spear strapped on a car travelling towards Rufford about three years ago.
